Flatbed Trucking & Material Delivery in Toronto

GTA Flatbed Towing & Float Services provides commercial flatbed trucking and material delivery across Toronto and the Greater Toronto Area. Operating daily from 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, we transport building supplies, steel, shipping containers, and equipment for project managers and contractors. For prompt dispatch or scheduled transport, call or WhatsApp 416-830-8854.

What We Haul

Flatbed trucking suits commercial cargo that cannot fit into standard enclosed dry vans or box trucks. Open decks provide unobstructed access from the sides, top, and rear, making flatbed transport the standard choice for suppliers, project managers, and builders across Ontario.

Whether moving materials between distribution yards or delivering directly to active job sites, our flatbed trucking service handles bulky, heavy, and palletized freight. We coordinate scheduled runs and urgent dispatches for:

  • Lumber and Building Materials Framing lumber, timber packages, plywood, sheet goods, and site supplies.
  • Structural and Fabricated Steel Steel beams, rebar bundles, structural tubing, bar stock, and metal fabrications.
  • Shipping Containers Empty or loaded sea cans transferred between depots, storage yards, and jobs. Containers are moved; size and price are quoted per job.
  • Medium-Sized Machinery Compressors, stationary generators, pumps, and plant units loaded by forklift or crane.
  • Crated and Palletized Freight High-density cargo requiring crane hoists or forklift access from the side.

Every shipment is handled by licensed (CVOR) operators trained in securing irregular and heavy loads.

Flatbed Trucking vs Float vs Tilt & Load

Choosing the correct equipment configuration saves time, protects cargo, and avoids site delays. GTA Flatbed operates diverse specialized vehicles across the Greater Toronto Area. Understanding the difference between our core services ensures your load is matched with the right transport platform:

Tilt & LoadHydraulic tilt decks with winchesGround-level equipment movingTilting deck to ground with winchForklifts, scissor lifts, non-running equipment

When your cargo requires overhead or dual-side access by forklift or crane, flatbed trucking is the ideal solution. If you need to move heavy earthmoving equipment that exceeds flatbed deck heights or weight limits, explore our specialized float services and heavy equipment transport. If your machinery sits at ground level without an on-site dock or crane, choose our tilt and load machinery transport. Review our fleet and capabilities to see how we configure our trucks.

Loads & Materials

Transporting construction materials and commercial freight across busy regional corridors requires dependable securement and proper vehicle matching. Open flat decks give loading crews complete freedom to position uneven cargo safely.

Open-Deck Accessibility

Standard box trucks restrict loading to a narrow rear door. In contrast, our flatbeds allow forklifts to approach from either side and overhead yard cranes to lower bulky loads directly onto the deck. This accessibility reduces turnaround time at supply facilities and project sites.

Professional Rigging and Securement

Every load is secured using certified equipment selected specifically for the material:

  • High-Tension Straps Premium synthetic webbing straps tensioned with heavy-duty winches to secure lumber packages, crated goods, and palletized materials without surface crushing.
  • Edge Protectors Corner guards positioned beneath straps to prevent strap abrasion and protect finished building supplies.
  • Weather Tarping Optional heavy-duty tarping service available on request to protect weather-sensitive cargo like finished lumber, drywall, and insulation from rain, snow, and highway spray.

How Delivery Works

We deliver a straightforward, dependable transport process designed to keep construction and logistics operations running on schedule:

  1. Describe the Cargo and Dimensions Provide the cargo description, estimated weight, and external dimensions (length, width, and height). Share any handling requirements, such as tarping or non-standard tie-down points.
  2. Specify Pickup, Drop-off, and Schedule Provide the pickup address, destination job site, preferred date, and required delivery window. Tell us about job-site conditions, such as unpaved access roads or staging space restrictions.
  3. Truck Matching and Allocation Our dispatch team matches your shipment to an appropriate single-axle or tandem-axle flatbed from our active fleet.
  4. On-Site Loading and Securement Your facility crew or site crane loads the cargo onto the open flat deck. Our operator inspects the weight distribution, secures all tie-down points with winches and straps, and applies protective tarps if requested.
  5. Tracked Transit and Safe Unloading Your delivery moves with live GPS tracking so dispatch can provide accurate arrival updates. Upon delivery, our operator releases the securement system, assists site personnel with offloading coordination, and obtains your delivery sign-off.

What Affects the Price

At GTA Flatbed, we provide transparent and straightforward transport pricing. Several operational factors influence commercial delivery rates:

  • Distance and Route Local transports are priced from our confirmed baseline of a $150 hook-up fee plus $5 per kilometre. Longer hauls across Ontario corridors are calculated based on total distance and travel duration.
  • Vehicle Type Required Sizing your load to a single-axle flatbed versus a heavier tandem-axle unit influences transport cost; single and tandem flatbed transports are quoted per job.
  • Cargo Dimensions and Weight Cargo dimensions and weight dictate vehicle requirements and transit planning. A vehicle and load that exceed the size or weight limits of the Highway Traffic Act need an oversize/overweight permit from the Ministry of Transportation, and municipal roads may also require permission or permits from that municipality. Permit costs, when needed, are included in the per-job quote.
  • Weather Tarping Requirements Adding full tarping services for weather-sensitive construction supplies.
  • Loading and Offloading Wait Times Extended site delays or complex multi-point deliveries.

FAQ

What can you haul on a flatbed truck?

We haul shipping containers, framing lumber, sheet goods, structural steel beams, bar stock, pipe bundles, masonry supplies, and medium-sized machinery. Our open decks accommodate any cargo that can be safely loaded by forklift or crane and secured within commercial road limits.

How are materials loaded and offloaded from the truck?

Materials are loaded and offloaded by forklift from either side of the open deck, or hoisted by crane from above. The open platform allows fast and flexible site handling without the physical obstructions of an enclosed trailer.

Can you protect building materials from bad weather?

Yes. We offer heavy-duty tarping services on request. Our operators apply durable vinyl tarps secured with high-tension straps to protect lumber, drywall, and machinery from rain, snow, salt, and highway road spray.

Do you deliver materials directly to active construction sites?

Yes. We deliver supplies to commercial and residential job sites across the GTA. When booking, inform dispatch about site access conditions, gate locations, and unloading space so we can plan the approach smoothly.

How much does flatbed trucking cost in Toronto and the GTA?

Our baseline pricing starts at a $150 hook-up fee plus $5 per kilometre for local moves. Final cost depends on total travel distance, whether a single or tandem axle truck is required, cargo weight, and whether tarping is requested. For detailed pricing breakdowns, check our towing cost guide or call 416-830-8854 for an upfront quote.
